How Rare This Level of Performance Is
Why Scores Like This Are the Exception, Not the Rule
Perfect 100/100 Google audit scores with sub-second load times aren’t normal— they’re outliers. Independent data from HTTP Archive, Google, and large-scale Lighthouse studies all show that most of the web fails Core Web Vitals and that top performance scores are reserved for a small fraction of sites.
Most sites still fail Core Web Vitals
HTTP Archive’s Web Almanac shows that as of 2022 only about 39% of mobile sites and 44% of desktop sites achieved “good” Core Web Vitals, meaning the majority of pages still fail at least one of Google’s user-experience thresholds.
High Lighthouse performance is top-percentile
Tune the Web’s analysis of 6.8 million websites found that only 10% score higher than 80 in the Lighthouse Performance category, and only around 1% reach a score of 99 or above—before even talking about perfect 100s in every category.

Google Chrome’s own Lighthouse documentation explains that performance scores are based on real HTTP Archive data with a log-normal curve: a score of 50 maps to the 25th percentile, while 90 maps to roughly the 8th percentile—and it explicitly notes that a perfect 100 is “extremely challenging to achieve and not expected.”
